Gov. Christie has little understanding of state government

VainieriHuttleVALERIE_optBY VALERIE VAINIERI HUTTLE
COMMENTARY

At a recent town hall meeting Gov. Chris Christie accused the Legislature of being on "vacation" and not coming back to Trenton until Nov. 8, a comment that I found to be offensive and ill-informed.

When my colleagues and I are not in Trenton working to find realistic solutions to the issues facing New Jersey residents, we're in our district offices speaking with families, elderly residents and unemployed workers who are worried about their futures.

By implying that our constituent discussions amount to a vacation, rather than a critical part of the legislative process, it's clear that Gov. Christie has little understanding of state government and even less consideration for the valuable input of the voters who elect legislators to represent them.

This fall Gov. Christie traveled out of New Jersey to campaign for candidates all over the country.

Instead of going to Ohio or California, I invite Gov. Christie to come to my legislative district the next time he hits the road. I am sure that he will find that what legislators do in their districts is just as a vital as the work we do in Trenton and certainly impacts the way we approach legislative matters.

Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle is a Democrat from Englewood, who represents the 37th Legislative District

Hey, Don`t you realize you democrats are digging you grave.By not
doing what the people want, lower taxes, and smaller government.

Unions might line your pockets but there are more votes that don`t
belong to one,

Valerie was a primary sponsor for Bill A454 that "Removes monk parakeet from list of potentially dangerous species." Was this Bill a result of the valuable input you are referring to during that important trip "home"? How many people in your district would love to have a trip "home" during MOST holidays.Check the Legislation Calendar http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/legislativepub/calendar/102610.htm . By implying that your constituent discussions can only be done when you are home, it's clear you, Valerie have little understanding of state government and even less consideration for the voters who elect legislators to represent them in Trenton. Should we close District Offices when you are not home (now that would be a chunk of change) Or perhaps you have so little respect for the common voter, you feel we are unable to use the telephone, email, computer, fax, or Facebook (you have several pages)

There are plenty of ways constituents can contact you:

but the Democrats will be lucky if I vote for any of their candidates. I think that Christie is doing a good job because when you peeve off as many people as he has, he must be doing something right! :) Naw, seriously, it's time to cut back and hammer those groups (like certain nameless unions) who have only their selfish interests in mind. Go Christie!

I agree with you completely. The Governor is traveling the country promoting other candidates but he really hasn't done anything for New Jersey. Consolidate the 605 school districts, raise the gas tax, these would be actions that take courage and I've seen none of that from the Governor. His failure to go after federal education funds because he feared showing cooperation with the teacher's union cost NJ families millions of dollars of much needed aid. The state is now being run by Talk101.5 and an angry mob of uninformed, uneducated, unfortunates who regret not staying awake in the classroom. I always thought more of this state, but when I read some of the comments on websites like I can see why NJ is home to 44 hate groups.

. . . and pass the governor's toolkit legislation.

We want tax relief now, not when you're done conspiring with the public sector unions to gut any meaningful legislation.

Oh Valerie...

Hard at work representing your district? S1643 Having cats and dogs sterilized before they are adopted. Destroying contraband tobacco in the proper way. S2215 Notifying seniors their dentures are from China.

Anyone with an 8th grade education can see that your useless Democratic party is dragging their feet. 70% increase in property taxes since 2000 and real pension and benefit reform for our public workers isn't a priority? Start representing the families, seniors and unemployed by making the state affordable again and stop representing the unions that keep stealing.

Christie is going to cut you useless democrats apart on the issues when you're up for re-election in the not so distant future. Get ready.
