Seizing on remarks made by President Obama during his incredibly emotional speech, thousands of concerned Americans with a fully functional cerebral cortex were equally horrified by the school shootings and, furthermore, reaching a level of Howard-Beale-from-Network-rage over the monopoly of power the increasingly radical NRA has over our leaders. So it’s about time that President Obama starts making right-wing, gun-toting nutjobs hate him for a REAL reason. Perhaps due to fear of invoking an armed rebellion of morons on Rascals with truck nutz and AK-47s, President Obama has largely dodged gun control. Indeed, along with climate change, there seems to be a pattern of ignoring issues that actually kill people in large numbers. In any case, the President seemed to be at his wit’s end; it seemed the sheer enormity of the latest gun massacre de jour in America rattled him and brought him to tears.
What’s more, the President seemed to finally make the Ron Paul crowd of attic-dwelling lunatics have a reason to hate him, while simultaneously making sane and reasonable people happy when he vowed for “meaningful action.” Well, Mr. President, roughly 87,000 people in under 24 hours have heard those words and they vigorously agree.
It seems that 87,000 Americans have visited the White House Petition Site and are calling on Obama to “produce legislation that limits access to guns.” As of now, it doesn’t appear as though mental health is a part of it but, Lord knows, it should be. In fact, I submit that for every dollar that fills the bloated and runaway $220 million annual budget of the legal terrorist group, the NRA – the retarded men-children who like to play dress-up while they go all John Rambo on a member of the Disney fauna (because hunting is so necessary for one’s livelihood in the metropolitan area) – the community donates a dollar to the American Psychiatric Association. But we can sooner expect a Kardashian on a payroll than that ever happening.
“[Powerful lobbying groups allow the ownership of guns to reach beyond the Constitution’s intended purpose of the right to bear arms. Therefore, Congress must act on what is stated law, and face the reality that access to firearms reaches beyond what the Second Amendment intends to achieve,” according to the Petition. (Think Progress)
Despite the fact that gun rights have actually increased under Obama, like allowing guns in national parks, the good old boys and tea-drinking racists have thrown the conspiracy theory book at him. So please go and sign this petition for reasonable gun regulation and give the Nugent crowd an actual reason to hate President Obama.
