Dave was a sportswriter for the nine years at the Newark Star-Ledger and he is now a freelance writer for the New York Times. While at the Ledger he was the beat writer covering the Mets during the exciting and tumultuous Bobby Valentine years, and the Knicks beat writer during the less-than exciting, but equally tumultuous, Isiah Thomas era. He also covered tennis for the Ledger. Prior to his years in Newark, Waldstein spent nine years at the New York Post covering the Mets, college sports, soccer and tennis. A graduate of the University of Michigan in 1985, he began his career in journalism doing entry level work at the Boston Herald in 1987, for whom he covered two World Cups. Despite growing up in Boston, he has diligently maintained his objectivity, even while covering the Jets and Yankees.
