Why should Powerball players have all the fun? The Mega Millions jackpot will crack the magic $100 million mark for its drawing on Tuesday night.
There was no first prize winner in the Mega Millions drawing of Friday, September 6, so the estimated annuity jackpot for Tuesday, September 10 will increase to $106 million. The cash option value will be $71 million.
The Mega Millions web site reports that the winning numbers for the drawing of September 6 were 2, 16, 17, 22, and 41. The Mega Ball was 31.
According to delawareonline.com, five tickets had the first five numbers without matching the Mega Ball, and one of them came from New Jersey. Philly.com reported that ticket was purchased with the Megaplier option, which multiplied the winnings to $1 million. The ticket was sold at Marina Sweet Shop in Passaic of Passaic County.
Powerball has grabbed most of the local lottery headlines recently with its current $245 million jackpot, and the one from last month worth over $448 million. But the Mega Millions offering is a tad more than pocket change. And the game has done very well this year for local players.
According to the Mega Millions site, the game has already seen four New Jersey players claim shares of Mega Millions jackpots in 2013. Barbara Matta and Karl Herkert of Kearney won $19 million on July 26, and Darryl and Judith Smith of Mays won $31 million on May 31.
Moving into the even higher echelons, on January 25 Angel Guallpa-Mayancela of Orange had a winning ticket worth $89 million. On May 17, Giuseppe Garofalo of Tinton Falls topped that by splitting a $198 million jackpot, and winning $99 million.
Also, be sure and check your old tickets. The New Jersey Lottery web site reports that a $250,000 winning ticket from October 5, 2012 is set to expire shortly if it is not claimed. Winning Mega Millions numbers for October 5, 2012 were 08, 09, 16, 32 and 39, the Mega Ball was 15 and the Megaplier Multiplier was 3.
