Mega Millions Winning Numbers Worth $130 Million: Tuesday, September 17, 2013

No one got real lucky in the Friday the 13th Mega Millions drawing, which means someone’s dreams of riches, financial security, and perhaps gluttony will be getting that much bigger next week.

The game’s last jackpot winner was July 26, and fourteen consecutive Mega Millions drawings have now gone by without the game having a grand prize winner. As a result, the top prize will increase again for next Tuesday’s game.

According to the Mega Millions web site, the jackpot for the game’s drawing on Tuesday, September 17 will be an estimated $130 million, and the cash option payout will be $88 million.

The winning numbers for the Mega Millions drawing on September 13 were 9, 22, 28, 48, and 54. The Mega Ball was 8.

Delaware Online reported that three tickets had the first five numbers without matching the Mega Ball. None of them were purchased in New Jersey.

That would have earned a winner a prize of at least $250,000. But at least one of our local players has had more than his share of luck at “secondary” prizes in the last few years. Steve Ontell of Passaic claimed his third significant New Jersey Lottery prize last week in Trenton.

According to the New Jersey Lottery web site, Ontell won $250,000 in a Mega Millions drawing in 2009. Then he learned the art of adding multiplier options to his bets. He won $40,000, multiplied from $10,000, playing Powerball in 2011, and just claimed $1 million in the Mega Millions drawing of September 6 by winning 4250,000 and adding Megaplier.

The Mega Millions site explains that Megaplier allows a player to multiply their non-jackpot prize by 2, 3, or 4 for a $1 purchase. Ontell is a retired police officer, and uses the six badge numbers he had during his service for lottery drawings.

Elsewhere, the NJ Lottery site reports that a player from Mine Hill in Morris County won third prize of $10,000 in the Mega Millions drawing of September 10. That ticket was sold at Buy Wise Markets.
