The New Jersey-based Goya Food, Inc. announced that it will distribute one million pounds of food to food pantries, food banks, shelters, senior organizations and schools in the United States and Puerto Rico. The company estimates that the donation will help feed more than three million people.
"At a time when millions of American are faced with food insecurity, this donation reinforces our commitment to aiding in the fight against hunger," said Robert Unanue, president of Goya Foods.
United Way will assist the food company distribute the food to local human service agencies in the New York Tri-state area, Boston, Buffalo, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, Washington DC and Puerto Rico.
Goya's Secaucus, NJ distribution center will serve as the flagship for the effort.
The donation is part of a series of initiatives by Goya to celebrate its 75th anniversary.
