Hopes of a huge windfall remain alive for local lottery players, as the last multi-state Powerball lottery drawing happened once again without any winners, causing the new jackpot for Saturday's drawing to grow to an estimated $184 million, with a cash option of $90.1 million.
Wednesday night was the 9th consecutive drawing without a jackpot winner.
Twelve lucky tickets matched the first five numbers for a $200,000 second-place prize, with one coming from New Jersey.
Lotterypost.com reports the last Powerball jackpot to reach the size of the upcoming Saturday drawing was on June 2, 2010, when one ticket from Ohio won a $261.6 million grand prize.
Not long before that, the last Powerball winner in our state came from northern New Jersey. According to NJ.com, state lottery officials announced that a lone winning ticket for a $211.7 million jackpot was sold at Gene’s Market and Deli on Speedwell Avenue in Morris Plains.

Sandra McNeil, a middle-aged mother who has been serving part time as a member of the Morris School District school board for four years, came forward as the winner of the March 13, 2010 Powerball jackpot, the third largest single-ticket lottery payout in New Jersey.
NJ.com reported McNeil chose the cash option when she purchased her ticket, meaning she will receive about $101.6 million before federal and state withholding taxes are taken out.
Lottery.com reports a law which would allow people to purchase lottery tickets online could pass very soon. The New Jersey Lottery has revealed the fact that, in 2010, they sold tickets worth more than $2.6 billion.
The problem with such a law is that it would dramatically decrease the profits of some small businesses all over New Jersey.
The state lottery has contributed with over $924 million for education, veteran services and human services. Now it is up to the legislature to decide what is more important, the profits of small businesses or more funds for education and such.
