All those claims that various “vitamin” and “energy” water promote health and can even prevent illness are all misleading — and can be dangerous, according to the National Consumers League.

NCL has filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, calling such advertising and labeling language on Vitaminwater products “dangerously misleading.” NCL wants the FTC to halt such deceptive statements.

According to the NCL, “These advertising claims are not only untrue, they constitute a public health menace. Stopping these Vitaminwater claims, which contradict information by the Centers for Disease Control and other public health authorities, should be a top FTC priority,” states Sally Greenberg, Executive Director of NCL.

NCL also wants the FTC to make Coca-Cola Company to run corrective advertising to dispel any lingering confusion about their Vitaminwater’s supposed health benefits.
