Event set for Wednesday
One way to help New Jersey rebuild in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene is to donate blood to ease a shortage caused when the storm kept people from donating.
On Wednesday, the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community will host a blood drive from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Katz Jewish Community Center in Cherry Hill, Camden County.
Sen. James Beach and Assembly members Louis Greenwald and Assemblywoman Pamela Lampitt (all D-Camden) are supporting and promoting the effort.
“In the wake of natural disasters like Hurricane Irene, one of the most important things a citizen who wants to help his or her neighbors can do is to give blood,” Beach said. “We are partnering with these community groups to further that goal in a time of true need.”
“The medical evidence is clear: blood transfusions truly do save lives,” Greenwald said. “Less than two months ago, the Red Cross announced blood donation levels were at an historic low. We hope this event will be a small step to remedy that, in addition to bringing our community together.”
“We’re proud to be a part of bringing the community together to help those in need,” Lampitt added. “The JCRC and Ahmadiyya deserve tremendous respect and praise for their hard work to make this event a success.”The Katz Jewish Community Center is located at the intersection of Kresson and Springdale.
