On Jan. 24, an informational luncheon on new Medicare benefits and free services available to Medicare beneficiaries in Mercer County will be held at Merwick Care & Rehabilitation Center in collaboration with Family Guidance Center.
The luncheon will be held at noon at the new Merwick facility at 100 Plainsboro Rd., off Route 1 in Plainsboro.
Talking about the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) will be Diane Hirko, Mercer County MIPPA coordinator from the Family Guidance Center. MIPPA encompasses significant changes and opportunities for Medicare beneficiaries. Some benefits to be discussed are changes in entitlement programs that now enable more individuals to meet eligibility requirements and special programs that can save an individual up to thousands of dollars a year.
Presenting the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) will be Joni Sampson, Mercer County SHIP coordinator from the Family Guidance Center and Joyce Usiskin, a specially trained SHIP volunteer counselor. SHIP at the Family Guidance Center provides free counseling and support services to Medicare beneficiaries who need assistance regarding their insurance plan and making important decisions for the future.
MIPPA and SHIP are statewide programs sponsored by the state Department of Health and Senior Services with major funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
