New Jersey Physicians Inc. are suing to challenge the Obamacare health plan that requires citizens to buy health insurance, calling it unconstitutional.
In arguments before a three judge panel in Newark Wednesday, according to the Associated Press, attorney Robert Conroy argued patients shouldn't be required to purchase insurance, claiming the physicians will be hurt because their fees could decrease.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is not a big fan of the health care bill. He told CNSNews.com New Jersey’s stance on the matter in February, saying, “There are 26 states pursuing this lawsuit. If it’s unconstitutional for Florida, Virginia and Alabama, then it’s going to be unconstitutional for New Jersey. Christie said other states are spending the money, and if the bill is found unconstitutional, for once New Jersey taxpayers are going to get a benefit for free.”
According to CBS News, the health care bill would reduce the federal deficit by $143 billion over ten years, and it would expand coverage to 32 million Americans who are not presently uninsured.
CBS New York reports a lawsuit by a New Jersey resident was dismissed in December, because the judge ruled that the man could be covered by a health plan by 2014 and wouldn’t be facing a penalty.Many people are arguing the fact that in 2014, people will be required to purchase health insurance or face a $695 annual fine. There will be exceptions for people with lower income.
