Citing security threats facing Japan, including an increasingly belligerent North Korea’s missile and nuclear programs, Prime Minister Taro Aso stressed the importance of strengthening security ties with the United States.
“You must be well aware that we face many issues in the Asia-Pacific region, including North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile development,” Aso told National Defense Academy graduates in Yokosuka.
“It’s extremely important to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. alliance while making efforts to boost our own defense capabilities in order to secure Japan’s peace and stability,” the Kyodo news agency quoted him as saying.With North Korea a threat, Japan turns to U.S.
