When the Mackey Funeral Home in Boonton was on the market for a new owner, it caught the eye of a prominent New Jerseyan. The prominent New Jerseyan, former senator and governor Richard J. Codey, signed on the dotted line and became the proud owner of the funeral home.
As reported in the Daily Journal, Codey beamed about his new address and business venture. “You know, Boonton is a beautiful town, “ said Codey. “And the people have been very nice. I’m finding people notice me around town, in diners and other places and say. 'You know, I’m a Republican, but we like you.' ”
Codey’s background is interesting.
He is a seasoned Democrat who has a long career in both politics and the funeral-home business.
