"Mission Impossible" star, Peter Graves (nee Peter Aurness) died Sunday of an apparent heart attack at his home.
After Sunday brunch with his family, they returned home, but Graves remained outside, one of his daughters went to look for him and found the actor unconsciousness. His daughter performed CPR, but was unsuccessful in reviving her father.
Best known for his role as Jim Phelps on "Mission Impossible" for six years (1967-1973), Graves was recently celebrating 60 years in the entertainment industry along with 60 years of marriage to his wife, Joan. His "Mission Impossible" role was revived in 1988 and he remained with the show for two more years.
The seven-time Emmy nominee was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1926 to his journalist mother and businessman father. His acting career began during the 1950s with television series "Fury."
The 1997 Emmy Award winner starred in television series such as 7th Heaven and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. His silver screen hits included Airplane, Airplane II: The Sequel and Stalag 17 amongst others.
Graves, who was the younger brother of actor James Arness, died a few days before his 84th birthday. His wife, Joan Endress, three daughters, Kelly, Claudia and Amanda Graves, and six grandchildren survive him.
