David Carradine may have died from auto-erotic asphyxiation

Thai police are now reporting that when they found David Carradine dead and naked in his hotel room closet on Thursday morning, a rope that was tied around his neck was connected to a rope tied to his genitals – so they believe his death may have been caused by accidental suffocation during a masturbatory sex act.

The Associated Press reports that Pornthip Rojanasunand, director of Thailand's Central Institute of Forensic Science, said Mr. Carradine may have died during a masturbatory sex act known as auto-erotic asphyxiation – cutting off oxygen to the brain for sexual arousal.

Initially police suspected suicide, but later they reported that no suicide note was found in the room. Mr. Carradine's friends and family strongly believed he would not have killed himself. Friday morning, police Lt. Gen. Worapong Chewprecha told reporters that Carradine was found with a rope tied around his genitals and another rope around his neck:

The two ropes were tied together. It is unclear whether he committed suicide or not or he died of suffocation or heart failure."

An autopsy was completed Friday, but police said results would not be complete for at least three weeks because of the unclear circumstances surrounding Mr. Carradine's death.

This is the kind of story we hate to post because it involves a very private act, but we feel we have to post it because Mr. Carradine's friends and family were so upset by the widespread speculation fueled by earlier reports from police that he may have committed suicide.

No matter how it happened, the loss is enormous. Our hearts and prayers remain with Mr. Carradine's loved ones.
