"Here comes S- - . . . " No, no, not him! Here comes Second Saturday at the Lawrenceville Main Street Artists Network Gallery.
This month's reception next Saturday, will be a festive occasion, with art, music, wine and snacks and holiday shopping for those so inclined. Around the theme of "Holiday Happenings," gallery visitors can expect four rooms chock-a-block with art in virtually all mediums — great for simply savoring, buying and gifting.
Works by five members of the cooperative will be featured along with the creations of their 24 colleagues, while Betty Horn and Sue Parisi, members of the esteemed Engelchor Consort, will provide seasonal music from 5-6 pm.
A self-taught ceramic and mixed media sculptor, Marysia Bohrer hand builds all her pieces. She has recently started incorporating the human form into her work, exploring the connections among organic forms.
Since getting her first pottery wheel and kiln, Evelyn Hamilton's dreams have "always come back to lines, and shapes, shapes, shapes," she says. Merging functionality with creativity, her works have included sundials and musical flutes, then bowls, vases and plates.
Marge Miller recently spent two years training in the classical tradition with a Bucks County artist. She has gained comfort in portraiture, and through studies in Italy, learned to capture the beauty of landscape.
For Ruthann Perry, "reusing wood, particularly that shaped by man and worn by time, is important." With horses as her primary subject right now, she's working in wood and found objects, including recovered architectural details and foundry molds.
Jewelry designer, painter and photographer, Jane Zamost relishes transforming the myriad materials she loves (semi-precious stones, paint, beads, polymer, fabric. . .) into entirely different things form jewelry to pocketbooks.
Holiday-inspired art and handmade ornaments and cards will be available at the gallery this month. As just three for-instances, Kim Moulder offers "sparkly little birds" with wings created from found papers, wreaths and unique gift tags. Michelle Rosenthal's holiday card this year is a multi-media dove of peace that expresses her sense of hope.
Janneke Van Der Ree designed whimsical fabric birds, each with its own detailed embellishments. "These birdies are perfect for tree ornaments or to brighten up just about any room in the house," she says.
Be part of a Holiday Happening next weekend — come to 2nd Saturday at the LMS Artists Network Gallery. And by the way, season's greetings!
