Short days, bitter cold, biting winds and snow drifts — for much of the animal kingdom, those weather conditions signal hibernation time.
But that's not so with most humans — starting with visual artists, who know how to make the most of winter's lights and shadows. Through the alchemy of creativity, members of the Lawrenceville Main Street Artists Network have produced works of art inspired by the season.
Their "light and shadow" themed works, and others, will be on view this weekend during the Second Saturday artists reception, 4-7 p.m.
Located on Main Street, Lawrence Township, the gallery has become a key stop for fine art and gifts during its year-plus in existence. In four rooms — with classroom and studio space upstairs — about 30 area artists show their work in virtually every imaginable medium.
Warming things up on Jan. 8, the reception will also feature hot soup from the Purple Cow, next door, wine from Ringoes' Unionville Vineyards and smooth jazz by Eliot Nagel and the Ko-Wop jazz group.
January 8 also marks the start of winter session adult, teen and children's art classes. (Visit the Network website for information and registration.)
And then as the light fades on Saturday afternoon, bundle up and drop in to the gallery for some warming cheer.
