Sacha Baron Cohen, best known for the edgy comedies "Borat" and "Brüno," may be the hottest celebrity on the red carpet at Sunday’s telecast of the Academy Awards. But it’s doubtful that Joan Rivers will ask the actor, “Who are you wearing?”

Earlier this week, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the actor may show up to the Oscars dressed as his character from the upcoming summer comedy, ‘The Dictator.’ There has been no confirmation whether Cohen will follow through with the alleged plans, but a spokesperson with the Academy told CNN that it “would love to have Sacha Baron Cohen at the Oscar show. … We have expressed that we don’t like our red carpet to be used as a promotional stunt.”

"The Dictator," which is set to be released on May 11, tells the story of Gen. Aladeen and his wishes to eradicate democracy from his home country. It also features Megan Fox, Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley and John C. Reilly, and received a great deal of buzz for a commercial that ran during the Super Bowl.

Cohen, who has previously appeared on red carpets in character, has been invited to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences event for his supporting role in ‘Hugo,’ the new movie from Martin Scorsese that's vying for Best Picture of 2011.

Robin Roberts, Tim Gunn, Louise Roe, Jess Cagle and Nina Garcia will host the Academy's official pre-show, beginning at 7 p.m. EST. This year, 'The Artist,' the top contender for the big award, will compete against eight other films for Best Picture.
