Yes, it’s true. Ted Haggard is a former Evangelical pastor who admitted to homosexual activity with a young male volunteer in his church, and then, disgraced, was forced to step down from his ministry. Gary Busey is an actor constantly seen in crazy mug shot photos resulting from drug arrests. They are going on “Celebrity Wife Swap” to trade wives.

Wait – these guys even HAVE wives?

Well, actually no. In Gary’s case it will be his longtime girlfriend that would move in with Ted, while Ted’s wife Gayle will move in with Gary.

Why would anyone go on wife swap? Isn’t it hard enough living with one spouse … now you have to get used to a different one?

I love my husband, but we’ve been married 20 years and we’re still getting used to each other. I sometimes snore, and leave half-filled water glasses all over the house, and compulsively hang on to newspapers, magazines and books that I plan to read someday. Sometimes I mumble to him from the other room, and he can’t hear me, and sometimes I shout when he’s standing right next to me. “Do you realize you’re shouting?” he shouts.

He leaves plastic bags with supplies from the hardware store all over the house, then he forgets what he bought, and goes out and buys more, so we have a ten-year supply of paint brushes, light bulbs and dimmer switches, but we don’t know where they are. He is pathological in his annoyance at cereal slurping.

I don’t think we could handle a wife swap.

Both Gary and Ted are practicing Christians. Gary became a born again Christian several years ago and is an active leader with the Promise Keepers. Ted, after relinquishing his place with New Life Church, is now a pastor of St. James, a non-denominational church in Colorado. Network television usually makes fun of religious people, so count on some “kooky Christian” spin. But really, to view these two as crazy won’t be too much of a stretch.
