Singers Beyoncé and Jay-Z welcomed their first child, a daughter named Blue Ivy Carter, into the world on Saturday. But not everyone was completely happy after learning how the couple spared no expense to basically take over the maternity ward.
Beyoncé checked into Lenox Hill Hospital Friday night using the name “Ingrid Jackson,” according to the New York Daily News. She and Jay-Z, who went to Trenton Central High School in his youth, rented out Lenox Hill’s whole fourth floor at a cost of $1.3 million.
People were seen coming to the floor with red wine and food Saturday night, and doctors and nurses were not permitted to enter the fourth floor after 11 p.m. The Chicago Sun-Times added that the couple also spent nearly $200,000 for added security to seal off all access to the wing.
A Brooklyn man said he had been barred from the Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit, once for 20 minutes, by their security team. Neil Coulton, 38, said his wife had delivered two premature girls this past Wednesday.
According to the New York Daily News, Coulton said, “These are children with problems in intensive care and you're just going to take over the hospital like you own it?”
The name Blue Ivy Carter may have a special meaning to Beyonce and Jay-Z. Reports say the “Blue” part of Blue Ivy Carter may be based on Jay-Z ‘s three Blueprint albums, according to vladtv.com. The “Iv” part of Ivy are Roman numerals for four, a number that has significant meaning to Beyonce, which she explained in her live DVD, “Elements of 4.”
The couple reportedly wants to keep images of their new baby private until they are prepared to release them.
