It was during a visit to Jamaica this past January when Snoop Dogg says he was “born again,” prompting him to change his name and style of music.
The artist formerly known for his gangster rap is looking to release a new reggae album in the fall under the alias Snoop Lion.
The Washington Post reported that the new album titled “reincarnated,” will be followed by a documentary of the same name, and feature a track with Snoop’s daughter.
The West Coast rapper held a news conference in New York on Monday, gathering friends, family, and media to announce the new project to be produced by Diplo and Major Lazer, according to Yahoo! Music.
He additionally spoke at length about his journey from gangster rap to a more enlightened Snoop Lion.
Snoop explained the album will feature music that both his “kids and grandparents can listen to,” also admitting he was tired of rap, and looking to try something new, according to MTV news.
