"Celebrity Magnet" Tom Murro got to play Goose to Tom Cruise’s Maverick Monday night on the red carpet for the Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol Premiere in New York City. Of course Murro wasn’t rocking aviators and singing “Great Balls of Fire,” but he did get to spend some time side-by-side with the never-aging A-lister.
“So how do you stay looking so good?” Murro asked him,“I work hard,” laughed Cruise. Murro said it best when he described the 49-year-old as actually looking only 25. Maybe looking young enough to still get carded? Okay, that was a stretch. But, Cruise looked great on the red carpet rocking a haircut circa Ethan Hunt from the first Mission Impossible movie. The first “mission” that started all of this movie series hype back in 1995.
Cruise was incredibly gracious to Murro, his fans, and all of the press eagerly waiting to ask him questions. It was nice to see him spend at least an hour singing autographs and taking pictures with fans. He also didn't miss one reporter in the press line. Although it delayed the opening a bit; Cruise was able to give everyone a slice of the action.
“Tom said he would love to do a sequel to Top Gun and was very diplomatic when asked about doing a 'Cocktail' sequel,” explained Murro. “He said Suri dresses herself, has great style and loves her stuffed animals. I also asked him what made this 'Mission Impossible' different from the first three, and he expressed how great it was to have director like Brad Bird on this one.” “You look at [his animated movies], and that’s what I wanted,” Cruise explained. “I have such great admiration for his storytelling and his characters, and I wanted the film to just have a big composition and a lot of humor. Brad Bird is just amazing.”
Speaking of impossible, one cannot enjoy a fun movie-going experience without a big helping of buttery popcorn. Thankfully Murro was able to share some while chatting with his new buddy and "Huge Tom Cruise fan," Stephen Baldwin. Baldwin told Murro about a British reporter he came across who made the claim that Cruise “can’t climb buildings forever.” Baldwin reassured the viewers that he straightened the guy out quickly when he said, “Tom Cruise can climb buildings as long as he wants to, that’s what makes him Tom Cruise.”
Murro was surprised he didn’t see more random celebrities who live in the city, considering how high profile this premiere was. But he did get to chat with other guests that included: "Lost" star Josh Halloway, R&B singer Robin Thicke along with Cruise’s co-stars Jeremy Renner and Paula Patton.
