Man Collects Social Security Checks 22 Years After Dad Dies

U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman has announced that a man from south Jersey has admitted to stealing Social Security benefits directed toward his late father over a 22-year period.

Michael Shelton of Pennsauken continued to collect monthly checks after his father died in 1990.

According to oig.ssa.gov, Shelton pleaded guilty to one count of theft of government funds on Monday in Camden federal court. Shelton admitted that he received nearly $205,000 in Social Security funds improperly between March 1990 and July 2012.
