There can be a lot of definitions of distracted driving, and a New Jersey Transit driver defined another one while going through Wayne on Tuesday.
Texting while driving deservedly gets all of the headlines, but a Transit bus passenger has accused the driver of reading at the wheel.
CBS New York reported that the unidentified female bus rider took photos of the driver reading a vacation pamphlet and a hardcover book while driving in stop-and-go traffic on Route 80 East in Wayne.
The woman said the bus was traveling slowly in heavy traffic. “Once the traffic cleared up and we were able to move, we were going a little faster, he did put the book down,” she said, according to CBS New York.
A New Jersey Transit spokeswoman said the agency has handled the matter. “This afternoon, NJ TRANSIT has taken appropriate disciplinary action against the bus driver in the photo,” Nancy Snyder said on Wednesday, according to NorthJersey.com. “We decline further comment as this is a personnel matter.”
