TRENTON – Christie along with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority approved the third largest tax break in state history, $260 million, for a new manufacturing plant on the waterfront in Camden, according to The Christie Tracker.
This will be granted over a 10-year period, to energy technology firm Holtec International, to build a manufacturing facility on the Broadway Terminal at the Port of Camden. The entire plan hinges on Holtec maintaining at least 235 new jobs at the future plant, as well as at least 160 jobs that, while already filled by current company employees, will be transferred to the Camden site.
If everything goes properly the project will create 1,400 construction jobs.
"Camden has a storied history and a troubled past," said Christie, according to nj.com. "But we need to move beyond that troubled past, and allow Camden to make its new history."
Camden is the third most dangerous city in the United States.
