The rejection of Philip Kwon’s nomination to the state Supreme Court by state Senate Democrats led leaders from North Jersey’s Korean community to announce Friday that they intend to form a grassroots political action committee to gain a voice in New Jersey politics.
More than 30 people attended a press conference at the Friends of Grace Seniors Community Center in Englewood, Palisades Park Deputy Mayor Jason Kim, Dongchan Kim, president of the Korean American Voter’s Council, and Andrew Kim, the 2010 chairman of the Korean American Census Task Force, who organized the event.
“The Korean American population is growing in Bergen County and throughout New Jersey, and we are not outsiders, we are part of New Jersey people and we want to get involved,” Kim told The Record of Hackensack. “And without being involved we can’t voice what we are thinking and what we want to say.”
Kim said the Korean American political action committee would likely be formed by June, before the primaries.
Michael Yun, a member of the Korean American Association of New Jersey, told The Record the action committee would attempt to send a strong message, and it would strive to elect candidates who “truly represent the people of New Jersey.”
“That was then, and this is now, and we will forgive, but we won’t forget,” Yun added.
