NOW THAT’S FUNNY
Elizabeth Warren, a Democrat running for the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts, fired off a little quip against her opponent, Scott Brown. Referring to the amount of loans she took out to get through college, she said about Mr. Brown, “At least I kept my clothes on.”
Mr. Brown posed nude for Cosmo Magazine when he was in law school. They named him “America’s Sexiest Man.”
The next day, on a radio show, Mr. Brown was asked about the comment. How did he respond to the wisecrack Ms. Warren made about keeping her clothes on?
“Thank God,” he joked back. Women’s groups immediately cried foul, calling his retort sexist.
I don’t think so. If Chris Christie had joked that he kept his clothes on, and Scott Brown had fired back “Thank God,” it wouldn’t be sexist. You can’t say you want to be treated equally and then retreat to the “But that’s not ladylike!” camp.
I never took my clothes off for money. You know why? Nobody asked me to! My butt was too big!
Everybody needs to lighten up and realize that teasing and jokes are a part of life and a part of politics. This week David Letterman made tons of fat jokes about Chris Christie. That’s going to happen. Scott Brown was a hottie when he was younger, so people have made fun of that. People have made fun of Sarah Palin for looking like an airline stewardess, suggesting that she might be too pretty to be taken seriously. All politics aside, if going to Tea Party rallies could give me as flat a stomach as Ms. Palin has, I’d go out and buy a tri-corner hat right now.I don’t know about you, but I’m already sick of campaigns and the 2012 election, and we’re still a year away from voting. It’s going to be a long year if we can’t have a sense of humor about a few things.
