Time Square legend the Naked Cowboy will announce his plans to enter the 2012 presidential race, according to a statement Monday.
Robert Burck, the former Hackettstown, NJ resident, is a well-known attraction in the Times Square area in his uniform of cowboy boots, cowboy hat, and briefs, with a guitar swung over his shoulder.
Burck, who appears to have a platform that would appeal to the Tea Party, invited members of the press to the official announcement of his presidential run on Wednesday at noon.
"Obama's going down," a clean-cut Naked Cowboy said on Thursday while wearing a three-piece suit. The 39-year-old vows to bring back a robust economy, a fiscally responsible government and the strongest national defense on Earth.
"America needs a president who believes in America. America needs a president who will stand up for America and protect its language, its borders, and most importantly, its culture," Burck said in a statement on his website.
"America, I will fight to give the power back to the people. My entire platform and all of my policies and decisions will be organized so as to achieve a much smaller, fiscally responsible, decentralized federal government," added the Cowboy, who, according to the New York Post, earned a bachelor's degree in political science at the University of Cincinnati.
Contrary to what you might think, the Naked Cowboy says he is a conservative.
"America you can count on me to be conservative through and through," Burck told the New York Daily News in a televised press conference held at KDF Car Wraps in New Jersey last week.
Burck's campaign promises include defeating the Taliban, ending illegal immigration, cutting taxes, fighting multi-culturalism in public institutions and upholding the second amendment.
Blast magazine blog broke the news of Naked Cowboy's bid for presidency after a reporter showed up to a cancelled press conference on Sept. 29. Another press conference will be held in Times Square on Oct. 6 where Burck will officially announce his campaign for president.
At 11:30 a.m. on the 29th, the podium was there with two men wearing sunglasses in black suits. At noon, a woman approached the podium and declared, officially, that something was "wrong." The woman was Cindy Fox, Naked Cowboy's real-life fiance. Yes, she would be First Lady if he's elected president. One of the reporters asked if he was not going to show up just because he only got 4 press people.
So the press conference was rescheduled. Don't be late.
And the Naked Cowboy is no stranger to politics. His father was a "career politician" and he holds a political science degree, Burck said.
In July 2009, Burck challenged Mayor Michael Bloomberg in that year's election for mayor of New York City. According to a report in The Daily Record, he withdrew from the race a couple of months later, saying there was too much red-tape involved.
