To say that Emma Hendrickson is a seasoned bowler is to state the obvious. After spending more than 50 years splitting the pins, the Morris County woman knows a thing or two about throwing strikes.
But when she steps up to the lane later today at the 2009 United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships in Reno, Nev., the number everyone will be paying attention to is not 300 – the score of a perfect game – but 100, Hendrickson’s age.
Hendrickson, who turned 100 last month, is part of a team of five that is competing in the championship, along with 300 others, according to the Associated Press.I've looked forward to it, though I didn't think much about it until about three weeks ago," she said with a laugh.
In the late 1970s Hendrickson, from Morris Plains, founded the junior bowling league in Morris County.
