2011 NFL Draft: Minnesota Vikings analysis and prediction

vikingshel042611_optWHERE THEY NEED HELP: Quarterback, Defensive secondary, defensive tackle

ANALYSIS: With Brett Favre FINALLY retiring, America’s national nightmare has ended (For the time being?) The Vikings now have to get a quarterback. Tarvaris Jackson was not the answer. Ryan Mallet should still be on the board when the Vikings pick. Mallett would be a reach for Tennessee with the 8th pick, and may still be here, as there are questions about his maturity and character. But nobody is questioning his physical skills. He can make all the passes. The Vikings secondary is aging and has no impact players. Minnesota also needs help at defensive tackle, as Pat Williams is 38 years old.

WHAT THEY SHOULD DO: Draft Ryan Mallet, Arkansas. The Vikings may spend the rest of the draft addressing their secondary, but with Fairly, Peterson and Amukamara off the board, the Vikings will address the quarterback position with their first pick. The only downside would be passing up Da’Quan Bowers of Clemson who will still be available.

WHERE THEY ARE EXPECTED TO USE THE FIRST PICK: Quarterback Ryan Mallet, Arkansas
