BIG EAST TOURNAMENT
NEW YORK — At the behest of his point guard Chris Howard, South Florida coach Stan Heath packed five suits for his trip here for the Big East Tournament. Three of them won't need dry cleaning.
The Bulls ended their run early, losing 69-49 to Georgetown in the second round at Madison Square Garden.
The Hoyas trailed for only six seconds early on in the game and started their romp from there. The loss was not without symmetry for USF as they burst onto the NCAA Tournament radar about a month ago thanks to an upset of then-No. 8 Georgetown. Still needing another marquee win to strengthen their resume, the Bulls' hopes may have ended.
"I'm not sure about that, comparing and contrasting the two games," said Hoyas coach John Thompson III. "I think we did a very good job of executing on the offensive end and getting shots and making key shots."Greg Monroe and Jason Clark led the Hoyas with 16 points each, and Chris Wright added 15. Dominique Jones led all scorers with 21 points but he was the only one with any offensive success for the Bulls as they struggled to reach double figures in first half, doing so with more than 15 minutes gone by.
"We really struggled to find a shot," said Heath. "That happened yesterday. I thought today it caught up to us. We couldn't hit a perimeter jumpshot."
