Brett Favre is set to return to the football field, just not in the NFL and without all the padding.
Favre is expected to become the new offensive coordinator at Hattiesburg Oak Grove High in Mississippi according to Biloxi-Gulfport Sun Herald. The former NFL quarterback is expected to be named as the new coordinator within days.
Favre and the school’s football coach Nevil Barr are reported to be close friends. Since Favre does happen to live close to the school, Barr has expressed interest in having Favre involved with the team after an opening within the coaching staff became available.
“Right now nothing is official,” said Barr to the Sun Herald. “Brett is on vacation in Colorado, and we will talk on Monday. We will talk on Monday to see how involved he wants to be. We lost our offensive coordinator a few weeks ago.”
According to Yahoo Sports, if Favre does get the job with the Hattiesburg Oak Grove High School team, it would not be the first time the quarterback has worked with the team. During his NFL career, Favre would keep himself in shape by working out with the school’s football team during the NFL off seasons.
Barr believes that if Favre does land the position it would be beneficial for the players.
“We have talked about it, and we will do more talking on Monday. It will be good for the kids. He is still very enthusiastic on the field,” said Barr to the Sun Herald.
