SETON HALL NOTES: Seton Hall ran their Big East home win streak to five with a 79-71 victory over DePaul on Sunday. Junior Jeremy Hazell scored 18 points to the team, while sophomore Herb Pope pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds. For the season, Hazell leads the Pirates and ranks second in the conference with 22.4 points per game. Pope leads the Big East with 11.0 rebounds per game in his first season in a Pirates uniform. Seton Hall (14-9, 5-7 in Big East) is now 12-3 at home this season, but heads out on the road for their next two games.
ST. JOHN'S NOTES: The St. John's Red Storm enter Wednesday's game with a very similar record to that of Seton Hall. The Red Storm are 14-10 overall and 4-8 in conference play. They've won two straight and most recently edged Notre Dame in Indiana, 69-68, on Sunday. Two players are currently averaging in double-figures in scoring for St. John's, D.J. Kennedy (14.9 ppg.) and Dwight Hardy (11.0 ppg.). The Red Storm are 10-4 at home this year, but are 6-1 at Carnesecca Arena.
THE SERIES: Seton Hall and St. John's will meet for the 86th time in history on Wednesday. Seton Hall has only played against three other schools more, Villanova, Providence and Georgetown. St. John's owns the all-time series lead, 54-31, but the Pirates have won six of their last 10 meetings. The Red Storm have won both of the last two games at Carnesecca Arena by a combined eight points. The Pirates out-shot (49.2%-fo-43.9%), out-rebounded (38-to-36) and forced more turnovers (13-to-10) than the Blue Demons.
