Angelo Savoldi, at 97 the oldest living wrestler and member of the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame (PWHF), will be honored at a special dinner on Oct. 1 in Carteret.

Among the classic wrestling figures scheduled to attend are Bob Backlund, Tito Santana, Doink The Clown, Dominic DeNucci and Dick Woehrle.

Savoldi, a long-time Parsippany resident, debuted on the pro circuit in 1937 and was a three-time National Wrestling Alliance junior heavyweight champion. His career in the ring spanned nearly four decades, as he later competed in the early days of the World Wide Wrestling Federation (now WWE) — he was also a minority partner — and founded the International Championship Wrestling (ICW) promotion in the 1980s. He was inducted into the PWHF in 2004.

The "Dinner of Champions" will be held at the Radisson Hotel on 30 Minue Street in Carteret, beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are available for $50. Interested fans can call Call Davey O’Hannon at 732-283-0487 or visit the PWHF online at www.pwhf.org.

All proceeds benefit the non-profit PWHF, located in Amsterdam, N.Y.
