The Bloomfield Archers, New Jersey's oldest continuing archery club, hosted another spirited round of competition Saturday and Sunday, May 23rd and 24th, at the 2009 Gold Cup at Brookdale Park in Bloomfield.

The Gold Cup is the New Jersey Outdoor State Archery Championships.

An estimated 200 archers competed at the event, according to Gold Cup organizer Jerry Pylypchuk. Actress Geena Davis was at the 1999 Gold Cup and world-class record holders come to Bloomfield to compete every year.

The Bloomfield Archers, founded in the 1930s, is active from April through October at the outdoor archery field in Brookdale Park. The club has an exclusive arrangement with Essex County to lease the field. The club houses equipment, including target butts and stands, in a building adjacent to the field for the exclusive use of members. The club hosts weekly "Sunday Shoots" that are open to all archers.

Distances are adjusted for youth and novice archers. All archers pay an entry fee of $10. Registration on the field is required one-half hour prior to shoot.

For membership info, check out the Bloomfield Archers website or  contact Arleen Samp, 22 Cheryl Court, Little Falls, NJ 07424
