New York Giants: Grade for 2011 NFL Draft picks

giantshel042611_optThe New York Giants did not come into draft looking for a cornerback, but could not pass up chance to select Prince Amukamara, the second best cornerback in the draft who fell into their lap. He should be starting by end of year and be a lock down corner for Giants for years to come. Second round pick, defensive tackle Marvin Austin was another player who should contribute right away and be a cornerstone along the defensive line. If the Giants' draft was judged by the first two picks it would be an A. The problem is that the Giants barely addressed the team’s most pressing needs at linebacker and offensive line. James Brewer may have the size teams want along the offensive line, but he was only an average player at Indiana and was considered a reach. Linebacker Greg Jones did not have a good season last year at Michigan State. Cannot dispute the talent or value the Giants got in the first two rounds with Amukamara or Austin. However the Giants did not address their most pressing needs in the early rounds, and when they did in the later rounds, the picks were reaches.
