"Everyone that has been associated with Erin is very proud of her," said Rutgers head coach Glenn Crooks. "It has been a very good year for her, and deservedly so. I think it is a matter of a good, hard-working person reaping the benefits of that hard work. I can't think of anyone more deserving of the honor."

The NJAIAW serves to recognize the accomplishments of girls and women in sports in the state of New Jersey. Each year, the NJAIAW honors a female student-athlete who, throughout her collegiate career, has distinguished herself in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence, service and leadership.

The organization also honors the four-year college team from each season that has achieved the highest GPA for the prior academic year. For the spring sports, the Rutgers women's tennis team was honored as having the highest GPA - 3.5 for the 2008-09 academic year. The Scarlet Knights finished with a 16-5 record last season and notched a fourth place finish at the Big East Championship.

Guthrie, who also earned the Big East Institutional Female Scholar-Athlete Award, is a history major and political science minor. She earned a 3.30 overall GPA and will receive a bachelor of arts in May. She was named to the Big East Academic All-Star Team in 2006, 2007, and 2008 and was a four-year Athletic Director's Honor Roll member.

Guthrie was named Big East Goalkeeper of the Year, posting a .47 goals against average this season, allowing just 10 goals in 21 games. Her GAA placed her fifth overall in the NCAA. The netminder posted a .885 save percentage - tied for sixth in the nation - and had 11 shutouts to extend her position as Rutgers all-time career shutouts leader with 44 clean sheets.
