Seton Hall has announced that guard Keon Lawrence will be able to rejoin the men's basketball team December 19 against Temple, ending his suspension which arose from an early morning car accident November 9. Lawrence was subsequently charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license following his crash on the Garden State Parkway, going the wrong way on the southbound side.
His reactivition will come at the end of the first semester of the academic year. The school has announced that he has completed the University's disciplinary process but there are still legal ramifications to his actions.
"Mr. Lawrence is also subject to an external legal process, which will determine the outcome of the motor vehicle citations he received," said Law School Dean Patrick E. Hobbs, who is overseeing the Department of Athletics this year, said in a press release. "Athletics Director Joe Quinlan and I have decided to allow Mr. Lawrence to return to the men's basketball team. Upon the conclusion of the external legal process, the University will decide whether any additional sanction is required."
By then Lawrence will have missed eight games this season before finally making his debut for the Pirates, after transferring from Missouri after the end of the 2007-08 season.
"I want to be clear that I am disappointed by Keon's terrible lack of judgment in this matter," said head coach Bobby Gonzalez. "He has let a lot of people down, but it's also important to note that he is filled with regret and remorse. He is still a part of our family and I hope in time we can all heal from this."
