The longer days of training at prep facilities and the waiting while teams analyze if you are right for them are over. It's not easy being an NFL Draft prospect, but some of them have let us behind the curtain agreed to be part of a journal series leading up to the Draft.
Jason Worilds is a native of Carteret, who played his college ball at Virginia Tech. As a defensive end he racked up 12.5 sacks in his last two season of play, being named to the second team All-ACC both years. Jason decided to forgo his senior year of eligibility to enter the NFL Draft.
With the NFL Draft finally here, Worilds let's everyone know what it feels like to be so close to the dream.
On how he's feeling with the Draft here:
I'm cool, I'm pretty cool about it. I'm pretty level headed about things. I am excited, of course, to see what will happen. I would say cool, but definitely I'm excited. On if there is any anxiety:
No, not really. I put my work in and everything is out of my hands.
OTHER N.J. DRAFT PROSPECTS
On his plans for the Draft:
I'm just hanging out at home with my family in Rahway.
On which teams he's visited so far:
I've visited with the Bills, the Dolphins, the Jets, the Broncos, and the Patriots.
On whether he has any idea of where he might be chosen:
No, nobody knows. No one knows. If they do, they're lying to you.
On where he might expect to chosen or if he will surprised like everyone else:
Yeah, just as surprised as anyone else. Whatever happens, happens.
On how his family is feeling:
Yeah everybody is real excited. Everybody is real anxious and real excited. I'm usually the level-headed one and I'm just playing it cool.
If he's thought about what it will be like to get the phone call from a team to notify he will be drafted:
Yes, I have. I really can't imagine. It will definitely be a high point in my life. I'm just anxious, excited I guess.
Whether the most important thing this weekend is to make sure his cell phone is charged and that no one else is calling:
[Laughing] Yeah, I think I'm going to keep it charged but make sure that other people are not calling me. That would be the problem.
Whether one of his friends will call and he'll have to tell them to call back later:
Yeah, I'm sure somebody will play that game.
Whether watching the Draft will be different now that he's a part of it:
It is going to be extremely different because you watch the draft for years growing up and see a bunch of other guys going through it, it's real fun. For it to actually be you, it's surreal. It's a dream. I'm definitely living a dream.
What his last pitch to a General Manager would be to draft him:
I'm not really one for selling myself. I would tell them they're going to get a hard worker, a great teammate and great player. An all-around type of guy. If they're looking for commitment, that's what I bring to the table.
