High pressure over the Tennessee River Valley this morning will shift towards the New England coast by tomorrow afternoon, which will produce tranquil conditions and a moderation in temperatures. Temperatures will rise into the mid 40's for highs this afternoon and then fall back into the upper 20's to lower 30's for lows tonight. As the high pressure system shifts off the coast tomorrow, temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 40's for highs.
By Wednesday night, the area of low pressure over the Gulf Coast this morning will track towards the New Jersey coast leading to rapidly increasing clouds. Periods of heavy rain will invade the entire Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas late tomorrow night on through Thursday afternoon. Rainfall amounts of a half an inch to over an inch of rain can be expected. Temperatures will sky rocket into the upper 40's to mid 50's as warm, moist air from the Gulf Coast surges northward.
Behind the storm, a much colder weather pattern will take hold over the northern Mid Atlantic. Arctic high pressure will be in control providing tranquil and dry conditions for most locations Friday on through Monday. A few weak disturbances may provide a few flurries or snow showers, however no organized area of precipitation is expected through this period. Temperatures will range from the mid 10's to upper 20s for lows and lower 30's to lower 40's for highs.
