As high pressure retreats into the Canadian Maritimes this afternoon, a rapidly developing area of low pressure over the Gulf Coast will track towards the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas by tonight. Clouds will increase through the day as a southeasterly wind transports warmer air into the region. Temperatures by this afternoon will rise into the mid 40's to lower 50's for highs.
Tonight, as rain advances from the southwest, temperatures will fall into the mid 30's over the interior and upper 30's to lower 40's along the coast. All rain is expected for most locations, however a mix of sleet, snow, and rain will be expected at the start of the storm over the northern interior locations of northeastern Pennsylvania, the Hudson Valley, and northern Connecticut.
Moderate to heavy rain will overspread the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan area tomorrow morning with winds veering from the southeast to northwest at 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts. Temperatures will rise into the mid 40's to mid 50's for highs through early tomorrow afternoon. Rainfall amounts of one to two inches is expected from this storm.
As the low pressure system pulls north into the Canadian Maritimes tomorrow afternoon, colder air will rush into the region leading to falling temperatures through the 40's and 30's along with windy conditions. A few scattered rain and snow showers will be a threat through Friday as the colder air builds into the region.
High pressure will build into the region on Friday evening and remain in place through early next week with dry yet cold weather conditions. Temperatures through the period will range from the single digits to upper 10's for lows and mid 20's to lower 30's for highs.
A cold front will approach on Tuesday with scattered rain and snow showers. Temperatures will range from the upper 10's to mid 20's for lows and mid to upper 30's for highs.
