As a warm front advances through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan area, temperatures are much warmer this morning. Temperatures this morning are already above freezing in many locations and will rise into the mid 40's to lower 50's by this afternoon. Clearly the year is ending on a very pleasant note.

A cold front will move through the region tomorrow morning and afternoon with widely scattered showers and cooler temperatures, however 2011 will clearly end on a relatively mild note and tranquil note. Temperatures will rise into the mid 40's to lower 50's for highs on Saturday.

For those going out for New Years Eve, expect dry conditions with light winds. Temperatures will range from the lower to mid 40's as the ball drops in Times Square, New York City.

Cooler conditions can be expected by New Years Day with scattered clouds and a light northwesterly wind. Temperatures will rise from morning lows in the mid 20's to lower 30's into the upper 30's to mid 40's. However, Sunday's temperatures are nothing compared to what's to follow for the first week of the new year.

A powerful Arctic cold front will drive through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas on Monday with scattered rain and snow showers. Temperatures will fall through the day with high temperatures in the lower to mid 40's in the morning before falling into the 30's. A powerful Arctic high pressure system will take hold Monday night through Thursday with scattered clouds and a few flurries possible. Temperatures will range from the single digits to upper 10's for lows and lower 20's to lower 30's for highs.
