As a strong low pressure system over southeastern Canada lifts to the northeast and high pressure builds in from the Upper Mid West, much colder air will build into the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas.
A few lingering flurries are possible through this morning, otherwise scattered cloud cover is expected. The main story today will be the falling temperatures through the 40's and into the 30's and the strong northwesterly winds at 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. The combination of strong winds and falling temperatures will lead to wind chills by this afternoon in the 10's and 20's.
As high pressure continues to take hold this evening, winds will decline and tranquil conditions will return. High pressure will remain in control through Thursday with scattered cloud cover and light and variable winds. Temperatures will range from the lower 10's to lower 20's for lows and mid 30's to lower 40's for highs.
A cold front will move through the region on Friday morning with scattered snow showers that may produce some minor accumulations of up to two inches. Otherwise, scattered clouds can be expected with temperatures rising into the upper 20's to lower 30's for highs.
A more organized area of low pressure will approach on Saturday with periods of light snow over the interior and a mix of rain and snow changing over to rain along the coast. While accumulations are uncertain, the best potential for snowfall accumulation will be over the northwestern interior. Temperatures will range from the upper 10's to mid 20's for lows and upper 20's to upper 30's for highs.
High pressure will take control by Saturday night and remain in place through Tuesday with moderating temperatures. Temperatures will range from the mid 20's to lower 30's for lows and mid to upper 30's for highs on Sunday, however by Monday and Tuesday temperatures will range from the mid 20's to mid 30's for lows and lower 40's to lower 50's for highs.
