The schedule for the 2011-2012 NFL season, should there happen to be one, has been released.

ESPN reports that the regular season will begin on Thursday night, Sept. 8, when the Super Bowl champions for the past two seasons, the Green Bay Packers and the New Orleans Saints, will meet at Lambeau Field.

Week 16 of the 2011 NFL season will bring a Saturday 1 p.m. Christmas Eve Giants-Jets meeting to New Meadowlands Stadium. This will be a home game for the Jets. It had been speculated that the NFL would mark that meeting as the season opener, scheduled for September 11 for both teams, to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
