Demarest horse owner hopes for Yonkers Trot victory

Celebrity Athena, owned by Demarest, N.J., resident Sam Stathis, drew the seventh post position for Saturday's $670,774 Yonkers Trot at Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway.

He hopes that the trotting filly can steal a page from thoroughbred Rachel Alexandra, which beat a "field of boys" in winning the Preakness Stakes in May.

Stathis is putting the three-year-old daughter of Yankee Glide up against seven colts in Yonkers Raceway's signature race. Celebrity Athena was installed as a 12-1 morning line longshot in the eight-horse field in the 55th edition of the second jewel in Trotting's Triple Crown. Marcus Johannson will be at the controls, and will have to best 7-5 favorite Judge Joe, who drew the rail for driver Ron Pierce.
