Folks who saw the 2006 movie "Borat" found it either wildly funny or terribly offensive.
But for one twenty-something couple, their apparent love of the controversial mockumentary resulted in a trip to the police station and a pending court appearance.
Plainsboro Police arrested Vadim Sapunov, 26, of Plainsboro, and his friend larissa Solway, 23, of Highland Park, on various charges including disorderly conduct and lewdness stemming from a bikini-clad performance in a public parking lot in which Sapunov exposed his genitals to the surprised officers Saturday afternoon.
Police said they were investigating a recovered stolen vehicle when Sapunov appeared, "attempting to act out a skit from the movie ‘Borat.'"
Solway, who was also charged with obstruction of justice, was videotaping the incident and later falsely identified herself to police, their report says.
Police did not find the stunt amusing and claimed the pair "interfered with their investigation."
In the film "Borat," a fictional character played by comedian Sacha Baron Cohen tours the United States and interacts with unsuspecting Americans, often in an offensive manner.
