Former president Bill Clinton will return to New Jersey for the second time in eight days Tuesday evening when he headlines both a fund-raising event in West Orange and a union rally in Little Falls for Gov. Jon Corzine.

And despite the findings of a new Suffolk University poll released Monday that gives Corzine a nine point lead over Republican challenger Chris Christie, President Barack Obama will return to the state for a third time in just over three months on Sunday and will attempt to give a political coup de grace to GOP hopes at rallies for the governor at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden and at the Prudential Center in Newark. The time for the rallies has not been set.

Clinton will appear at an Essex County Democratic Committee fund-raiser at Clinton at 7 p.m. at Mayfair Farms in West Orange. A rally hosted by UFCW Local 464A will follow at 245 Paterson Ave. in Little Falls at 8:45 p.m.

The Clinton and Obama appearances are part of an effort by the national and state Democratic parties to give Corzine a final boost in his attempt to defeat Christie and prevent Republicans from gaining control of the Statehouse.

Obama made his second appearance for Corzine Wednesday in Hackensack. He first appeared on the governor's behalf at the PNC Arts Center in Holmdel on July 16. On Tuesday, Clinton campaigned for the governor at rallies in Collingswood and at Rutgers University in New Brunswick.
