Governor Chris Christie, Facebook co-creator Mark Zuckerberg and Newark Mayor Cory Booker announced the donation of $100 million to Newark public schools by Facebook on Oprah Winfrey’s show in September 2010, but the New Jersey governor won’t allow his 15-year-old daughter to open a Facebook page.
When Christie asked his daughter who backed him up on her Facebook ban, Sarah acknowledged it was Zuckerberg.
Christie talks about that and more with Winfrey in an hour-long interview filmed at Christie's home in Mendham. During parts of the interview, Christie discusses President Obama, love, and donuts.
The governor said he was attracted to his wife Mary Pat at the University of Delaware because she was independent, fun, and spontaneous. According to an Associated Press report on Mail Online, when Winfrey asked Christie how she was spontaneous, he said he remembered Mary Pat saying, “Let's go break into the kitchen in the dining hall at college because we smell that they are baking donuts for the next morning. Let's sneak in and steal some of the donuts now."
Christie told Winfrey that the guilt he feels about his weight relates to his family. He said, according to Businessweek, “I wish that I could get better control of it, just for my own health, and my own future, with my children.”
Politically, the New Jersey governor was pressured for a time to seek the Republican nomination for the presidency himself in 2012.
Christie said, “In terms of me, I'll be much more ready four years from now than I am now.”
He also spoke about Mitt Romney, who he supports in the Republican primaries.
"He's got a depth of knowledge and experience to be a good president, but the question is whether he can connect with the American people,” Christie said, according to USA Today.
But Christie acknowledged respect for President Barack Obama, telling Winfrey, according to Politico, “He’s as good of a politician as I’ve ever seen. What he says he believes, he believes. That’s a very dangerous politician.” But he said Congress is “at war with itself,” and the president is the only one who can call a truce.
The interview with Christie is set to air Sunday, Jan. 15 at 9 p.m. on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
