An Edison High School teacher was given three years probation for having sex last year with a 17-year-old student, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan.
Superior Court Judge Dennis Nieves also barred Anthony Iazzetta, 27, of the Fords section of Woodbridge, from teaching or having any contact with the victim.
Iazzetta, who taught mathetmatics at the school, was arrested at his home in the Fords section of Woodbridge on June 15 2009, following an investigation by Edison police and the prosecutor's office.
They charged that he had sex with the girl, who was not in any of his classes, the preceding day. School authorities learned of the incident, and contacted police, according to the prosecutor. The arrest came near the end of Iazzetta's first year working for the district.
Following negotiations, Iazzetta pleaded guilty in May to one count of child abuse, admitting he had sexual relations with the girl, according to the prosecutor.
