A 30-year old woman from Little Egg Harbor who was being held captive and forced into prostitution used Facebook to orchestrate her rescue. After she told Hackensack police she was not the only one being held, further investigation led to her captor being charged with human trafficking.

NorthJersey.com reported that the woman, who was not named, contacted her brother in Florida through Facebook. The brother then called Little Egg Harbor police, who notified Hackensack police, where Terrance McCarroll, the woman’s captor, lived.

The woman told investigators her situation began after she had been jailed for taking a car without the owner’s permission. McCarroll, 29, bailed her out and told her she had to work off the debt, according to investigators.

The woman then she was held against her will and forced into acts of prostitution in Bergen County for a week and a half. An officer told the Cliffview Pilot, "He would drop her off at her appointments, then take the money, smack her around, and threaten to kill her. It seemed he kept his eyes on her all the time."

After being notified by the woman’s brother, Myfoxny.com reported that Hackensack police went to the apartment where they thought the woman was being held, and found McCarroll’s girlfriend along with drugs.

The girlfriend called McCarroll at the police station, and he arrived there with the captured woman. Police charged him with criminal restraint, promoting prostitution, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

New Jersey criminalized human trafficking in 2005. McCarroll’s bail has been set at $120,000.
