The FBI is looking for two men who threatened to kill a bank employee during a robbery at a Hackensack Wachovia bank branch around noon Tuesday.
The suspects burst into the bank armed with handguns, jumped a counter and stole an undisclosed amount of money from several teller drawers, according to the FBI's Newark office.
The robbers were described as thin, black males, one being 5-7 to 5-11 tall, the other being 5-5 to 5-10 tall, wearing hooded sweatshirts, black gloves and dark pants, in their late 20's to mid 40's. After robbing the bank, the two fled in a stolen dark colored 2003 Dodge Caravan with New Jersey license plate S2H135, Hackensack Police said.
The Hackensack robbery was reported only a short time after Mahwah police arrested a would-be bank robber who allegedly demanded money from a Bank of America on Route 17. No weapon was used in that incident, police said.
As FBI agents were responding to the Mahwah robbery, they received word of what authorities called a "takeover-style" crime in Hackensack.
The two robberies are not connected, the FBI said.
No injuries were reported in either case.
Anyone with information about the Hackensack case is asked to call the Newark FBI at 973-792-3000.
