Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino announced Friday that the victim in Thursday's East Orange homicide has been identified as Floyd McLean, 39, of East Orange.

McLean was involved in a motor vehicle collision at Central and Oraton Parkway in East Orange at approximately 6:35 p.m. When police and emergency medical personnel responded they pulled McLean from the vehicle. They discovered a puncture wound to the chest that was initially thought to be the result of a gun shot.

McLean was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A preliminary autopsy done Friday revealed the wound was caused by stabbing --- not gunshot.
